A man called 911 to report he had murdered his wife late Wednesday afternoon in Geneva before turning his gun on himself, authorities said Tuesday.

Chad Dockery, 49, fatally shot Amanda R. Dockery, 48, in a home, made the call and then waited in a vehicle parked at the end of driveway for first responders, police said. When the a police officer arrived, Dockery shot himself, police said.

Amanda suffered two gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva at 6:06 p.m., authorities said. Chad was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:30 p.m.

Nobody else was in the home and no other injuries were reported, police said.

Geneva police said Chad Dockery lived in Hinsdale, and so does the paperwork he filed when he declared bankruptcy last month.

Recent court records show Amanda Dockery, whose maiden name was Ramsey, alleged her former husband would not communicate with her regarding his share of their son's college costs.

Records show he worked for H.E.S.S. Caulking and Renovation in Rochelle. The company's website indicates the firm was started in 1991 by a Charles Ramsey. Kane County tax and land records indicate a Charles Ramsey owns the house where the shooting took place.

Chad Dockery's Chapter 13 bankruptcy petition listed him as owing $10,041 in child support; $19,296 to the IRS; and as much as $44,000 on a 2020 Ford Explorer.

The Kane County coroner said autopsies on the Dockerys will be performed Friday.
