Herald missed the mark endorsing Duckworth

After the Daily Herald endorsed Bruce Rauner for governor, I was hopeful that the editorial board would show the same courage and endorse an independent thinker like Larry Kaifesh for the 8th Congressional District. Yet the Daily Herald seems unable to connect the dots between decades of de facto single-party control and Illinois' abysmal economic climate.

The editorial board is seemingly unfazed by Illinois congressional Democrats like Tammy Duckworth seeking to export Rod Blagojevich and Michael Madigan's failed policies to Washington. I was saddened to see the Daily Herald so effusive in its praise for Rep. Tammy Duckworth. They claimed her to be a "relationship builder" and "independent thinker." However, she votes 91 percent of the time with Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party. Voting against her party only 9 percent of the time may qualify as "independent" by the Daily Herald, but I doubt most readers would agree.

We voted for Tammy Duckworth because she promised a lot. But she failed to deliver. Our district is hurting and the constituents want answers. I am supporting Larry Kaifesh for this election because he is not beholden to party leaders and special interests.

Like so many others I talk to, I am fed up with politics. All we hear is nothing but attack ads and bitter partisanship. Kaifesh is someone who is going to listen to the constituents first and the special interests last.

As we near Election Day, I hope that the Daily Herald does more than display the nuance of Tammy Duckworth, while inaccurately showing Kaifesh's false one-dimensionality. The voters deserve better.
