Congressman Krishnamoorthi receives Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Safety Act HERO Award for leading efforts in Congress to increase motor vehicle safety

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety President Cathy Chase presented congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Safety HERO Award for his leadership and contributions to "make our nation's roadways safer for all," at a reception in Washington, D.C. Since 1989, Advocates has been a critical partner in the effort to reduce vehicle crashes, save lives and reduce injuries by supporting increased road safety measures.

While serving as chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, congressman Krishnamoorthi has been one of the leading advocates for road safety, uncovering potentially lethal misrepresentations in the booster seat industry, introducing legislation to end those dangers through comprehensive labeling and safety testing, and authoring the States Afforded Funding Extensions To Oppose Driving Recklessly In Vehicular Engagements (SAFE TO DRIVE) Act, which is already providing grants to states to save lives by expanding their programs to combat distracted driving through education and enforcement.

"I want to thank Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety for honoring me with the HERO Award and for their leadership in helping improve motor vehicle safety and saving lives," said congressman Krishnamoorthi." Even with the progress we've made in improving the safety of our vehicles, roads and highways, there is still more progress to be made. I'm grateful to receive this recognition for my work to combat distracted driving and improve the safety of the booster seats our children depend on, and I look forward to continuing my important work with Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety in the future."
