Nicor Gas employees support Chicago Region Trees Initiative this Earth Month
In celebration of Earth Day this weekend, members of Evergreen Illinois, Nicor Gas' employee engagement and sustainability team, helped plant trees through the company's partnership with the Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI).
CRTI is a partnership of communities, individuals, organizations, green industry, businesses, and governments working together to develop and implement strategies for a healthier, more diverse, more equitable urban forest by 2050.
Employees helped plant trees this week at the Fox Run Golf Links in Elk Grove Village, and also provided sponsorship support for a tree planting project at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights.
In 2021, Nicor Gas announced its ambitious sustainability initiative to support the conservation of 10,000 acres of open land within its service area through partnerships with organizations such as the Morton Arboretum and CRTI. At the time, Nicor Gas made a $10,000 commitment to the CRTI - an establishment of the Morton Arboretum - to protect trees for a more sustainable future for the next generation.
In 2022, Nicor Gas again made a commitment to expanding the tree canopy across the Chicago region with a $200,000 five-year commitment to the Morton Arboretum's Centennial Tree Plant Initiative, which aims to plant 3,000 trees throughout the area.
