School and police officials stress prom safety to Grant High School students
Grant High School and Fox Lake police officials urged students to have a safe prom Friday, with a pre-prom celebration at the Fox Lake school.
Students participated in games, such as walking and tossing items into a bucket while wearing "drunk goggles." Freebies were given to the participants, including ear buds, lanyards, flash drives and T-shirts.
"Kids need to realize the severity of the situation," driver's education teacher Brian Kibitlewski said. "They need to think twice so they don't make a mistake."
The event, held the cafeterias during lunch hours, wasn't all fun and games. Officials stressed the dangers of underage drinking and driving to the students.
Teachers wore T-shirts with the saying "please return on Monday."
The school's prom for juniors and seniors was held Friday night at The Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows. "A Night for the Young and Beautiful" was the theme for this year's event.
