Schaumburg Boomers fall 3-2 in 10 innings

The Schaumburg Boomers saw starting pitcher Edwin Carl come within three outs of a no-hitter Tuesday night only to drop a 3-2 decision to the visiting Frontier Greys in 10 innings.

Carl matched a franchise record for strikeouts with 11 in 8⅔ innings. The righty retired the first 17 batters before Francisco Rosario reached on an error with two outs in the sixth. Carl struck out the side in the first and notched at least 2 strikeouts in each of the first four innings. The New Mexico native did not allow a hit until the ninth when Jhiomar Veras spoiled the gem.

Schaumburg handed Carl a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first on RBI doubles from Steve McQuail and Alexi Colon. Scott Carcaise homered in the 10th to produce the winning run for the Greys. McQuail, Colon, and Craig Massey each posted 2 hits for the Boomers, who finished with 9.

The Boomers (12-16) continue the series Wednesday with an 11 a.m. game against the Greys. LHP Anthony Gomez (1-4, 8.59) is the scheduled starter for Schaumburg against LHP Eric Kline (0-0, 15.75).
