Gas leak cleared in subdivision near Cystal Lake

Crews have contained a gas leak that prompted police to direct traffic away from a subdivision near Crystal Lake Saturday night, authorities said.

Residents of the subdivision near Route 14 and Manor Street were told to stay indoors and close the windows about 9:30 p.m., McHenry County Sheriff's Sgt. Eric Ellis said.

A resident backing a car out of a driveway in the subdivision clipped a gas line, triggering the leak, Ellis said.

By 10:15 p.m., NICOR crews brought the leak under control.
