Local Youths Receive Hospitality Scholarships

Five Local Youths receive Hospitality Scholarships

CHICAGO -- The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (IHLAEF) today announced the recipients of its scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Matthew Zyburt, Jesica Leon, Joshua Heiger, Matthew Korman and Cole Demet are 5 of the 21 recipients of scholarships this year. This is the second year that Zyburt and Heiger have been awarded a scholarship. All scholarship recipients were awarded for their outstanding academic achievement, strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.

Zyburt of Wheaton received a $2000 hospitality scholarship because of his outstanding academic achievement, strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. Zyburt will be a sophomore at Purdue University this fall, where he is majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Leon of Melrose Park received a $2000 hospitality scholarship because of her outstanding academic achievement, strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. Leon will be a senior at Roosevelt University this fall, where she is majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Joshua Heiger of Buffalo Grove received a $2000 hospitality scholarship because of his outstanding academic achievement, strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. Heiger will be a senior at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall, where he is majoring in Hospitality Management.

Matthew Korman of Highland Park was awarded the $2000 Kimpton Hotels of Chicago scholarship. Korman will be a sophomore at Cornell University this fall where he is majoring in Hospitality Administration with an interest in pursuing a minor in Real Estate and a concentration in Food Service Management.

Cole Demet of Lake Forest was awarded a $2000 hospitality scholarship. Demet will be a sophomore at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, this fall where he is majoring in Hospitality Management.

Designed to ignite confidence in Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association (IHLA) member employees and hospitality management students, IHLAEF is helping support the next generation of hospitality leaders and equipping them with resources to help advance their education.

For the 2015-2016 academic year, IHLAEF awarded $52,000 in scholarships to 21 students studying Hospitality Management at 13 colleges in Illinois and across the country. The 21 students received $2000 to $5000 scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement, a strong portfolio and a commitment to pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.

The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (IHLAEF) is the not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) educational arm of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association (IHLA). Incorporated in 1992, IHLAEF has been a primary source of scholarship assistance for deserving Illinois college students pursuing hospitality management degrees throughout the country, awarding over $350,000 since its inception.

The Foundation focuses on three major initiatives: Educational Programming, High School to Career Curriculum and Workforce Development, and Scholarships.
