Sacred Architecture tour series to visit St. Charles churches June 28

Three St. Charles churches will host guided tours in a "Discovering Sacred Architecture" program from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28.

The public is invited. Admission is free. Refreshments are served.

St. Charles churches participating are Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. Fifth Ave.; Congregational United Church of Christ, 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd.; and St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 Cedar St. (which will be 2 to 4 p.m.).

Church docents will detail their sacred-space architecture and how it reflects their traditions.

The St. Charles program is the third of three monthly tours showcasing a total of 11 Fox Valley places of worship.

The sponsor is Fox Valley Interfaith, an informal group of 75 clergy and community members.

The series opened April 19 with tours of Batavia and Geneva churches. Three Aurora churches and Temple B'nai Israel synagogue hosted tours May 17.

Janet Bell of Geneva, series coordinator, said, "A full year of planning has gone into 'Discovering Sacred Architecture.' We hope visitors will find it enriching and invite friends."

Founded in 2009, Fox Valley Interfaith has sponsored 15 programs and service projects. The group's goal is to raise public awareness and celebrate the rich diversity of local faith traditions.
