Believe Project: $100 to a friend who is blind and needs help around the house

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Helen Knechtel of Mount Prospect.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"I have a friend who is blind and lives alone in her house. She finds it hard to get to her phone and even dial the numbers. She cannot drive, shop for groceries or go to the doctors. Recently, she tried to go to the basement to do her washing and had a fall. She hurt herself and now is afraid to go down the stairs. She has very little income and her children all live far from her. I sure would like to help her but I am now 96 myself and much slower at doing all my own housework. I would like more than anything to help this friend."

• The Believe Project mails a $100 bill each day to someone with a good idea for how to use it to do a good deed for someone else.
