Driver charged with DUI in McHenry skateboarder's death
A 21-year-old Wonder Lake man is charged with drunken driving and causing the death of a 17-year-old skateboarder Tuesday night.
McHenry police said Justin Raven, of the 7700 block of Orchard Road, was driving the white Ford F-250 pickup truck that struck Nicholas Kilpatrick of McHenry in the 4200 block of West Crystal Lake Road at 9:08 p.m.
"The vehicle was traveling northbound and so was the skateboarder," McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Birk said. "The pedestrian was riding a skateboard in the roadway."
Rescue crews took Kilpatrick to Centegra McHenry Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
An autopsy performed Wednesday revealed Kilpatrick died of multiple injuries to his head, spine, chest and abdomen, according to the McHenry County coroner's office.
Raven was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.
He is charged with one count of aggravated DUI and one count each of DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of consumption. He was being held at McHenry County jail pending a bond hearing.
The McHenry County critical accident team is aiding in the investigation.
