Campaign to support construction of home for injured veterans

Beginning Nov. 2 through Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the Chicago area will donate a portion of Dark Roast coffee sales to support Homes for Our Troops and construction of a Joliet-area home for Captain Anthony Simone.

In addition to a donation of up to $10,000 from Dark Roast coffee sales, Dunkin' Donuts will sponsor a Text to Give campaign on its social media accounts. Followers will be invited to text "DD" to 71777 support Homes for Our Troops.

Air Force Capt. Simone was on his third deployment when he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. The helicopter was shot down while attempting to rescue an injured service member. Simone was one of only two survivors of the crash.

A native of Pennsylvania, Simone currently lives in Joliet with his wife and two children. He receives therapy and treatments at Hines VA and awaits construction of a specially adapted home built by Homes for Our Troops in the Joliet area.

"Men and women who give up the lives they knew due to injuries while serving our country are our true heroes," said Kathy Nowicki, senior marketing manager, Dunkin Brands, Inc. "We are proud to support Captain Simone with a portion of Dark Roast sales and help call attention to the need to provide continued support to our injured service members."
