Schaumburg/Hoffman Relay For Life raises more than $100,000

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates got under way at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium Friday evening having already raised more than $102,000.

Though totals were still being tallied during the event, 39 teams and 230 participants had been registered as of Friday morning.

The event included musical performances from several bands, fun games and contests, a poignant candlelight ceremony at 10 p.m. and a screening of the movie “Frozen” after midnight.

All the while, representatives of each team were walking laps throughout the 12-hour event. Themed laps around the stadium included a hula hoop lap, Hawaiian lap, superhero lap and glow-in-the-dark lap.

The event was scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Saturday, and to be followed by a wrap-up party Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Hoffman Estates village hall.
