Shakou Cares program to benefit four local charities June 24-27
Shakou, the new modern Japanese restaurant at 312 Main St. in St. Charles, is kicking off its Shakou Cares program June 24-27 by donating a portion of lunch and dinner proceeds to four local charities.
Shakou Cares was designed by the restaurant's owners to help local organizations raise funds, find cures and champion worthy causes.
The program begins on Wednesday, June 24, with a portion of proceeds going to CASA Kane County. CASA Kane County recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers who serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in court due to abuse, neglect or private guardianship. CASA/GAL volunteers spend time with the children, families, teachers, therapists, and medical professionals to collect information that helps the Judge make the best interest decision for a safe, caring and permanent home for each child.
On Thursday, June 25, a portion of Shakou proceeds benefit Jenny McCarthy's autism organization, Generation Rescue. The organization is dedicated to recovery for children with autism spectrum disorders by providing guidance and support for medical treatment to directly improve the child's quality of life for all families in need.
On Friday, June 26, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation. Bryan Bickell is the Chicago Blackhawks left winger. The foundation creates awareness for "pit bull" type dogs and works with them to assist formerly abused children.
On Saturday, June 27, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Living Well Cancer Resource Center in Geneva. Living Well serves as a vital component to comprehensive cancer care and stands as a gathering place that provides comfort and community to anyone experiencing the effects of cancer.
"As a part of the community, we believe in doing what we can to support local nonprofit organizations," says Ed Hartigan, St. Charles operations manager and owner, along with partners Aleks Dupor and Adam Garvanian. "This is just the beginning of our continuing efforts to help those in need."
Shakou Cares was founded two years ago with the opening of the first Shakou restaurant in Libertyville. Since then, dozens of nonprofit organizations have benefitted from the program.
The dinner menu, created by Chef Sang Choi, includes hot and cold appetizers, soups, salads, by-the-piece nigiri/sashimi and maki, signature maki rolls and beef, chicken, fish, noodle and seafood cooked entrees. The lunch menu also features a sushi bar, kids menu and guest favorites such as Bento Boxes and salads.
