The Northbrook Farmers Market begins June 21
The Northbrook Farmers Market starts Wednesday, June 21, at the Meadow Plaza parking lot, and runs every Wednesday through Oct. 11.
Northbrook Village President Kathryn Ciesla recognized the 15th season of the farmers market by proclamation at village hall.
The market opens for the summer at its usual location off Cherry Lane and Meadow Road.
The all-volunteer Northbrook Farmers Market Association, headed by President and Market Manager Dale Duda, runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday.
Ciesla likely will preside over the annual watermelon-cutting ceremony to officially open the 2023 market season. NorthShore University HealthSystem sponsors opening day activities including music, face painting, balloon sculpting and giveaways.
Dogs also are welcome at the market, on a short leash.
Vendors planned for all dates or select Wednesdays this season will provide honey, Mexican food, breads and baked goods, cheeses, vegetarian offerings, meat and eggs, a variety of vegetables, flowers, soap and a knife sharpening service.
The market also has a Community Table staffed weekly by community groups and individuals such as the Northbrook Park District and, later, the public library, CATCH, Sen. Julie Morrison, Lubavitch Chabad of Northbrook, and Monarchs, Milkweed & More.
SNAP benefits will be accepted and up to $25 per swipe of a Link card. The market also accepts Senior Farmers Market Coupons and vouchers for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
Last season, the market gave away $62,000 through its SNAP program. It also donated more than 80,000 pounds of food to the Northfield Township Food Pantry, Ciesla stated in her proclamation.
In 2022, shoppers from more than 40 ZIP codes visited the Northbrook Farmers Market, making some 21,000 visits from June through October when the market ends with a children's pumpkin-decorating event.
