Colleagues bid retiring Glenview library director 'Happy Trails'

Longtime Director Vickie Novak said goodbye Tuesday - retiring after 18 years at the Glenview Public Library. Because social distancing requirements didn't allow colleagues to throw her a proper retirement party, they made do, said Hilary Gabel, the library's director of communications. "We decided to collectively express our best wishes outside while practicing social distancing and wearing our face coverings," Gabel said. "Today's surprise retirement send-off was a simple way for us to show her our appreciation and let her know she will be missed"

Colleagues including Monique Flasch, a librarian in reader services, give retiring Glenview Public Library Director Vickie Novak a send off outside the library Tuesday. The group sang "Happy Trails" - Novak is a lifelong horse enthusiast. "I have been a lifelong equestrienne," she told the Herald recently. "That's what I do, that's my passion when I'm not living in the library world." Joe Lewnard/jlewnard@dailyherald.com
