Vernon Hills hosts 11th annual law enforcement exhibition

The Vernon Hills Police Department hosted its 11th Annual Law Enforcement Exhibition at the Westfield Hawthorn mall in Vernon Hills this weekend.

The two-day event ended Sunday with more than 20 area law enforcement and related agencies participating. Exhibits included motorcycles, Humvees, ATVs, information booths and an emergency calling simulator.

The fun and educational event also included K-9 demonstrations from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Zion Police Department, Waukegan Police Department and the Lake County MEG unit; a child identification program; and an opportunity to interact with officers from area communities.

Organizers say the purpose of the event is for area law enforcement and related agencies to gather in one location so people can see specialty vehicles, equipment and demonstrations - and interact with officers.

"The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for us to regenerate public interest in the positive aspects of police work," event coordinator Kim Christenson said in a news release. "It's fun and educational for everyone, regardless of age."
