Pedestrian struck, killed by Metra train in Lisle

An inbound Metra train struck and killed a pedestrian Monday afternoon in Lisle, causing extensive delays for BNSF line commuters throughout rush hour, officials said.

The incident happened east of the Lisle station just after 4 p.m. in an area not near an intersection or pedestrian crosswalk, Metra Spokeswoman Meg Reile said. Train No. 1272 was expected to depart the Lisle station at 4:08 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 4:58 p.m.

"From what I can tell, this is not a location that you would think a pedestrian would be," Reile said.

Lisle police say this may have been a suicide.
