WEBELOS Den In Pack 398 Earns Supernova Award
If you pay attention to the latest shifts in the world, you may have noticed the new phenomenon referred to as "STEM". This is an educational focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Boy Scouts of America has designed achievements for all age groups to help engage boys in these areas. First is the NOVA award, which is a patch that looks pretty cool! For each achievement earned, boys receive a pin with the pi symbol on it to place on the patch. The WEBELOS den in Pack 398 earned this award, but they still wanted more of a challenge. There is another award for those who really apply themselves called the Supernova Award. This is one of very few medals awarded to boys in Scouts. In order to earn this award, boys need to work with a registered mentor, and then begins the rigorous work! As their den leader, I registered to be their mentor as well, as I have a degree in mathematics. This worked out very nicely, as I am proud to announce that 7 boys from the WEBELOS den in Pack 398 have earned their Supernova medals! They are Colin Berg, Tyler Clendenning, Owen Doubek, Dominic Rizzo, Sebastian Serocki, Jacob Snarski, and Dustin Zaprzalka. They completed research about famous scientists, technology innovators, engineers, and mathematicians. They participated in a science fair, where each boy presented his own project and provided a written report. And they also learned first-hand what it means to be an engineer by speaking with one in person. These boys deserve public recognition for all their hard work in achieving this milestone award! I'm very proud of all you have accomplished, boys! Congratulations!
