Lincolnshire's Spring Lake Park may get second water slide
Kids who frolic in Lincolnshire's Spring Lake Park could find a second water slide there this summer, officials said.
The existing slide at the park, which is on Oxford Drive south of Route 22, is about 10 feet tall and is on a plastic raft that's anchored to the center of the lake during the summer season, Lincolnshire Public Works Director Brad Woodbury said.
The slide is in good shape, but officials have discussed repairing or replacing the raft, he said. The equipment is about 8 years old, according to village documents.
Instead of swapping out one raft and slide for another, officials plan to expand the raft and add a second slide, Woodbury said.
Side-by-side slides will give kids the chance to race into the water, he said.
"Why not add on to it and make it more exciting?" Woodbury said.
Installing a second slide in the lake should make the beach experience more enjoyable for kids in another way, too.
"You're probably never going to have a line," Woodbury said.
Officials budgeted $15,000 for the project. If the town's park board approves the plan Monday, Woodbury hopes to order the equipment later in the week.
It could be installed by the time Spring Lake Beach opens for the weekends-only preseason in late May, Woodbury said.
The park board meets at 7 p.m. at village hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road.
Spring Lake Park is one of the village's most popular parks, and the slide is one of the more popular features there, Woodbury said. The park also has tennis and volleyball courts, a playground, a picnic area and baseball fields, among other amenities.
It's also the site of the village's annual Independence Day celebration.
Spring Lake Beach is open May 25 to Sept. 2. Lifeguards are on duty between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Daily or seasonal passes are required to enjoy the beach or the freshwater lake. Prices range from $3 for a daily pass for a Lincolnshire resident to $100 for a family pass for out-of-town residents.
Passes can be purchased at village hall. An application form that's available online can be mailed to village hall, too.
