Naperville movie theater withdraws request for new liquor license
Hollywood Palms is likely to remain the only movie theater in Naperville where patrons can get a beer or a glass of wine with their flick.
AMC Showplace 16 has withdrawn its request for the city council to create a new type of liquor license that would allow the theater to sell alcohol, City Manager Doug Krieger said Monday.
Krieger said the council will take no action on the creation of a Class V liquor license for movie theaters during its meeting Tuesday night, but the issue could be revisited later at the theater's request.
The Class V license would require theaters to hire bartenders who are at least 21, put them through the city's training program, ensure alcohol is sold only to people 21 or older, give wristbands marked with the date to each customer and serve alcohol in clear cups different from those used for nonalcoholic drinks. The license would cost $2,100 a year and alcohol could not be sold before noon.
The creation of a new liquor license for movie theaters met mixed reviews from city council members in January when the topic first was discussed.
Hollywood Palms is able to sell alcohol under a Class B license held by the restaurant inside the theater.
