Schaumburg receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The village of Schaumburg announced it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

"I am pleased to receive this award on behalf of our staff that helped put this budget document together. This is the second year in a row in which we have been given this accolade," said Lisa Happ, director of finance. "This demonstrates the village's continued commitment of providing a clean, transparent budget document that is easily accessible to the public."

To receive the significant achievement, Schaumburg satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assess how well an organization's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents must achieve a proficiency rating in all four categories, including 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

"I am proud of our staff for working to produce a professional budget document that year after year exemplifies the highest possible standard," Village Manager Brian Townsend said.

Schaumburg's fiscal year budget 2015-16 is available on the village's website at www.ci.schaumburg.il.us/Docs/Finance/Pages/Budget.aspx.

Beginning in 2013, 1,424 participants received the award for budgets. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
