Crystal Lake South 2nd at Asics Preview

The Crystal Lake South girls volleyball team stepped up to the challenge Saturday, finishing in second place at the Asics Preview at Mother McAuley.

The Gators defeated Fenwick 25-20, 25-15; Marian Central 25-19, 25-14, Montini 23-25, 26-24, 25-19 and Marian Catholic 27-25, 25-17 before falling to Lyons Township in the championship match 25-22, 26-24.

Cincinnati recruit Carly Nolan had a monster tournament for CLS (14-4) with 55 kills, 26 digs and 5 blocks. Abby Marchewka added 24 kills, 29 digs and 6 aces while setter Cassy Sivesind had 93 assists to go along with 24 digs and 4 aces.

At Westminster Christian: Elgin finished in seventh place at the Westminster tournament, beating Elgin Academy and Westminster but losing to Woodstock North and Waukegan. Julie Camarena (4 aces) and Bopha Travis (3 aces) led the Maroons (10-10) with 28 digs each, while Mimi Hernandez (4 ace), Kaylie Witslepe (8 aces) and Tiana Palumbo (7 aces, 43 assists, 6 kills) each had 17 digs. Emily Huprich added 13 kills, Abby Pierre-Louis had 19 and Emma Sirridge 15.

At St. Viator: Larkin finished in seventh place at the 12-team St. Viator tournament, beating Rolling Meadows, IC Catholic Prep and Conant but losing to Carmel and Elk Grove. Danielle Newquist (31 kills, 13 aces, 28 digs), Amelia Gill (28 kills, 45 digs), Audrey Shores (16 kills, 10 blocks), Isabella Orozco (16 kills, 12 blocks), Natalie Kofie (18 kills, 95 assists, 31 digs), Ella Rolans (17 kills, 26 digs), April MGhee (11 assists, 46 digs) and Mackenzie Malone (6 aces) led the Royals (9-14).
