Minimum wage vote possible today
The Illinois Senate could vote today on a plan to raise the state's minimum wage to $11 per hour by 2017, starting with an increase from $8.25 to $10 per hour in July. The increase was supported by voters in the advisory referendum on the ballot just two weeks ago. Full story.

A study of statistics and violent crimes against women ranks Naperville the safest city in America among 285 cities with 100,000 or more people. Naperville police say collaboration with schools on educating kids against violence and sexual assault, as well as specially trained female officers who investigate certain crime against women, attributed to the accolades. State police finish investigation into Carpentersville death
The Illinois State Police concluded a three-month investigation into the death of a Carpentersville man who scuffled with police shortly before his death. That report has been turned over to the Kane County state's attorney, who will determine if criminal charges are warranted. Full story.
Aurora police charge 6 in recent burglaries
Aurora police arrested six suspects in several home and car burglaries on the city's east side. Five of those arrested were juveniles who remain in the Kane County Youth Home. Full story.
Libertyville seems unlikely to lift video gambling ban
An official vote hasn't been taken, but Libertyville leaders appear cool to the idea of lifting the village ban on video gambling. Village trustees seemed to agree with the majority of speakers during nearly two hours of public comment this week, saying the effect on the community as a whole likely would outweigh the benefit for some businesses.
