The Batavia Public Library has announced One Book, One Batavia 2016 selection and programs.

"The Hound of the Baskervilles," one of four novels featuring consulting detective Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle, is the One Book, One Batavia 2016 selection. During February and March, Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., will offer a book discussion and programs related to the book, including a presentation by the curator of the largest collection of Sherlock Holmes material in the world.

The library's Adult Services manager, Stacey Peterson, will facilitate a discussion of the book at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the library. Registration is not required for the book discussion; however, participants are asked to read the book prior to the discussion.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, the library's "Inclusion Movie Night" will show a PG-13 movie based on a younger version of the London sleuth. "Inclusion Movie Night" is a program for teens and young adults of all abilities and their families and friends. Registration is not required.

Timothy Johnson, curator, archives and special collections department and the E.W. McDiarmid Curator of the Sherlock Holmes Collections at the University of Minnesota Libraries, will speak at the library at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1. Johnson's talk, "Footprints of the Hound: Exploring the World of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the Baskerville Legend," is the next program in the library's New Lyceum Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Friends of the Batavia Public Library and the Batavia Public Library Foundation. Fans of stories, books, or movies featuring Sherlock Holmes will want to hear this talk. Registration is required.

Also in March, the library will show a classic version of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" movie at 7 p.m. Monday, March 7, and again at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13. Registration is not required.

The final program in the 2016 One Book, One Batavia celebration will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, March 17. One Book, One Batavia is an annual communitywide reading program presented by the library and co-sponsored by the Friends of the Batavia Public Library. This is the 14th book to be celebrated by the library with programs, authors, and guest speakers. The program was established when the library opened its newest building on Batavia Avenue.
