Hoffman Estates drubs Maine South

The birthday bash continued for the Hoffman Estates softball team on Monday.

For the third time this season, a Hawks player celebrated a birthday and her team won the game.

This time, on the day she turned 16, sophomore Veronica Cardella had an RBI single in the third inning of Hoffman's 11-4 win over visiting Maine South.

Sam Acosta (2-for-4), Alexus Venegas (2-for-4) and Kajal Dalal (2-for-3) led the offense for Hoffman (4-2) while Charlotte Allan (2-1) struck out seven and walked two while picking up the win.

Fremd 10, Resurrection 0 (5 inn): Julie Josten (3-for-3, 4 RBI, sacrifice fly) belted 3 doubles for the second straight game as host Fremd improved to 3-0 behind Joanna Josten (2-0), who threw a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings.

Abbi Iuorio (2-for-2, 1 run), Kayla Kaufman (2-for-3) and Alyssa Garcia (3-for-5) also doubled for the Vikings while Tracy Welninski (2-for-2, 3 RBI, walk) belted a 2-run homer to center with two outs in the fourth inning.

St. Viator 7, Buffalo Grove 0: St. Viator senior ace Sam Hogan scattered 5 hits while striking out six for her sixth win of the season.

"Sam really pitched tough when she had to," said Lions coach John Scotillo. "Buffalo Grove (3-4) just kept the pressure on. This was a very tight game most of the way."

Playing on their home field for the first time this season, the Lions (6-2) opened the scoring in the second inning when freshman Grace Kaiser hit a 2-run homer over the center field fence to score Gina Mastrodomenico, who had doubled.

The Lions scratched out a run in the third with a two-out RBI by Kristen Hackel and again in the fourth when Mastrodomenico scored on a passed ball.

Freshman Addie Swiderski belted a two-out 2-run homer to left in the sixth inning to make it 7-0.

Elk Grove 8, Lake Park 6: Becca Maher (2-for-3, double), Gina Cirrincione (2-for-3, double), Alex Masnica (2-for-4, double) and Sarah Paucher (2-for-4) led host Elk Grove (6-1) as senior Megan Eul (5-0) worked the first 6 innings to pick up the win.

Palatine 5, Cary-Grove 2: Grace Rohrwasser and Victoria Parrott (double) each went 2-for-3 with a run for the host Pirates (2-4).

Jules Udoni (2-0) struck out three in six innings to notch the win while Dani Boisvert hurled the final inning.

Courtney English also doubled for Plaatine.

Barrington 10, Johnburg 0 (5 inn.): Senior Jennifer Inamoto threw a 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk for host Barrington (6-2). The senior (1-0) also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI.

The only hit for Johnsburg (1-2) was a single to center with one out in the fourth inning.

Inamoto faced only 17 batters, thanks to a nifty double play. Fillies second baseman Kelly Katis fielded a grounder to her right, spun around and tagged a runner heading to second and then threw to first to end the inning.

Erin Ward (2-for-2, 2 runs) and Carly Kordich (2-for-3, 2 runs) were other top hitters for the Fillies.

Rockford Boylan 13, Rolling Meadows 12 (8 inn.): Jenny Watson (3-for-4, 2 doubles), Maddie Morgan (2-for-5), Grace Skorin (2-for-6) and Lane Winkler (3-for-6) led the offense for the host Mustangs (0-5).

Schaumburg 18, Niles West 0 (5 inn.): Elaine Walker (4-for-5, 2 doubles), Shannon Felde (4-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Paige Alt (3-for-4, home run, 4 RBI) and Christina Candotti (2-for-4, home run, 4 RBI) led the Saxons' offense.
