Donohue delivers walk-off winner for Prospect
Prospect pulled out an extra-inning victory in Mid-Suburban League baseball Friday.
The Knights first rallied to score 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and tie up their game against visiting Palatine.
That set the stage for Pat Donohue, who hit a walk-off 2-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish a 7-5 Knights triumph.
Grant Miller and Grant Gerdes both finished with 2 hits for Prospect.
Zach Serna and Andrew Bohlmann had 2 hits apiece for Palatine (11-10), while Brad Bauer doubled and drove in 2 runs.
Tony Gattuso earned a win in relief for the Knights (11-5-1).
Hersey 16, Hoffman Estates 14: Host Hersey scored in every inning from the second through sixth, saving its best for last with a 7-run outburst in the sixth in a 16-14 victory gainst Hoffman Estate on Friday.
Ryan Allain earned the victory in relief for Hersey (6-9-1).
Brett Harris was among Hersey's big hitters and finished 2-for-2 with a double, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Multiple hitters included Andrew Segalla (3-for-5), C.J. Reichel (3-for-4), Quentin Jedd (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Mitch Smelser (2-for-3) and Tommie Pearson (2-for-3, 2 RBI).
Ethan Bloom scored twice and doubled, finishing 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Jeff Mayes was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Trevor Pye, Matt Roesch and Zach Lewandowski had 2 hits each for the Hawks.
Conant 3, Buffalo Grove 0: Mike Matej tossed a gem, allowing 5 hits (all singles) with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks to give the visiting Cougars a lift.
Brady Pelesh went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Conant, and Anthony Forte double and drove in a run.
Anthony Coduti pitched 2⅓ scoreless relief innings for Buffalo Grove, and Nate D'Onofrio had a pair of singles.
The win snaps an eight-game skid for the Cougars (6-15).
Elk Grove 2, Fremd 0: Peter Arbov tossed a complete-game 5-hitter with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks as the host Grenadiers prevailed in MSL play.
Fremd's Dan Pinderski was also strong on the mound, going all 6 innings and allowing just 3 singles and 1 walk.
Daryl Rivera drove in one of the runs, and Josh Bergbreiter and Arbov scored for Elk Grove (12-4).
Rolling Meadows 8, Schaumburg 3: Winning pitcher Erik Schurtz helped the Mustangs get past the visiting Saxons with a strong effort.
Schaumburg had 5 hits, but committed 5 errors.
Sean O'Brien, Brett Gibson and Bobby Suchecki each doubled to help pace a 10-hit attack for Rolling Meadows.
Barrington 12, Wheeling 4 (8 inn.): Jake Coon doubled twice and finished 5-for-5 as visiting Barrington poured across 8 runs in the eighth inning to pick up an MSL victory.
The Broncos scored 4 runs in the first inning, thanks in part to a pair of Wheeling errors, as Daniel Kubiuk earned a victory in relief. Mitch Pfeiffer finished 3-for-5 with a double, and Jake Petersen was 4-for-5 with a double.
Nathan Cooney and Matt Vollmer both doubled for Wheeling, which produced 9 hits.
Christian Liberty 5, Lake Forest Academy 3: Junior Tom Keplar got a win and Aaron Rot earned a save as the Chargers produced 11 hits, including a double from Dylan Antonides.
