Streamwood takes U-46 tournament title
Streamwood's boys volleyball team laid its claim Saturday as the best team in the Elgin area, taking first place at the U-46 tournament, which also included St. Edward.
Jonah Exline led the way for the Sabres, collecting 49 kills for the day.
Streamwood lost to South Elgin 15-25, 25-15, 11-15 but came back to beat Bartlett 25-21, 25-20 then Larkin 25-15, 25-17, St. Edward 25-15, 25-10 and finally Elgin 25-17, 25-15.
Anthony Berrios added 38 kills for Streamwood (9-3) and Matt Curyla had 17.
South Elgin also went 4-1 in the event but finished second on tiebreaker criteria.
After beating Streamwood, the Storm downed Larkin 25-19, 25-18 then handled St. Edward 25-17, 25-12 and Elgin 18-25, 25-22, 15-11 before losing to Bartlett 25-13, 15-25, 15-12.
Chris LaCalamita (33 kills, 45 digs), Cameron Nylec (27 kills), Jose Gomez (22 kills, 28 digs), Danny Sedlack (23 kills), Shil Patel (21 digs) and Jack Scheffler (94 assists, 13 digs) led South Elgin in the tournament.
Elgin was 2-3 in the tournament and took fourth place. The Maroons (2-4) beat Larkin and St. Edward but fell to Bartlett, South Elgin and Streamwood.
Travis Paquin (17 kills), Kyle Tayag (19 kills, 47 digs), Courtese Cooper (29 kills, 6 blocks), Eric Hernandez (71 assists, 18 digs) and Brian Munoz (43 digs) paced the Maroons.
