Raupp Museum unveils renovated Crossroads exhibit

Heloise Jacobs, 9, was on a scavenger hunt for antique, old-fashioned general store items on Saturday at the Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove.

She found everything on a checklist provided by the Buffalo Grove Park District during the opening of the newly renovated Crossroads exhibit, which includes replicas of the Prairie View train station, the Weidner general store and the Geimer greenhouse.

Jacobs said the scavenger hunt helped her notice some of the small things in the exhibit that she may not have spotted otherwise. "It's a cool way to see the new display," she said.

The $200,000 remodeling was largely funded by a $149,000 state grant, but contributions from others were in evidence too. Lindsey Wetle, 15, of Buffalo Grove, who was helping Jacobs find items on her list, said she handmade from clay the colorful "candy" displayed in several jars on a shelf in the general store as part of a Girl Scout project.

About 200 people attended the opening, Debbie Fandrei, museum coordinator said.

"Schools and groups will visit the new display throughout the year," she said.
