YMCA Offers Free Swim Lessons this Weekend to Prepare Kids for Summer Pool & Beach Season
With Memorial Day and warm weather on the horizon, families are eagerly awaiting the chance to dive into the joys of summer. As local pools, rivers and lakes begin to entice children, now is a good time for parents and guardians to be sure their kids have basic swimming skills and water-safety knowledge.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is hosting Water Safety Awareness programs this month, including free swim lessons, to help families feel confident and safe in and around water. Research has shown that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children aged 1 to 4 years.
Free swim lessons will be offered on specific Fridays or Saturdays in May at participating city and suburban YMCA membership centers. Kids will receive a a "Super Hero Swimmer" participation certificate and additional water safety tips. Plus, if you enroll your child in a summer swim class after taking a free swim lesson, parents will receive $10 off the class registration fee.
