77-year-old woman killed in Schaumburg crash
A Schaumburg woman was killed and two other people were injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on the south side of the village, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office Monday night identified the victim as 77-year-old Matalda Gallo. Police say Gallo was a passenger in a Chevy Malibu traveling east on Irving Park Road about 10:40 a.m. when it turned left on Mitchell Boulevard and was struck on the passenger's side by a Chevy Tahoe that was westbound on Irving Park.
She was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Malibu, an 82-year-old Schaumburg man, and the Tahoe's driver, a 78-year-old Schaumburg man, also were transported to Alexian Brothers with what police described as injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The intersection, as well as parts of both roads, were closed to traffic until about 4 p.m. while Schaumburg police and the Major Case Assistance Team Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.
No charges have been filed, police said.
An autopsy for Gallo is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
