Senior housing coming to Wheaton's north side

Construction of a senior housing development on the north side of Wheaton will begin this August.

The Wheaton City Council approved a special use permit for a senior development at 219 E. Parkway Drive in 2012, but the applicant was unsuccessful in acquiring financing to the complete the project.

Since then, the property has been sold twice. The newest owner, CA Senior Living, purchased the property in December 2014 and has agreed to use the site in the same manner as the original applicant, with some minor modifications.

A new zoning application was submitted to and approved by the city council on June 15. According to city documents, financing has been secured by CA Senior Living and construction is scheduled to run through October 2016.

A CA Senior Living spokesman said the development will have a total of 64 assisted-living units and 20 memory care studios. There will be extensive amenities, including a coffee shop, a beauty salon, a movie theater, a chapel, a computer learning center, game and craft rooms, a physical therapy exercise room and outdoor seating and gardens.

CA Senior Living is also in the process of constructing another suburban senior housing development in Grayslake.

Pathway Senior Living, a Des Plaines-based company, has been hired to operate and manage the facility, according to city documents. The company also runs the Victory Centre of Bartlett, Alexian Village of Elk Grove, Victory Centre of Vernon Hills and Oak Hill Supportive Living in Round Lake Beach.
