Schaumburg tops Hoffman Estates in regional quarterfinal
Schaumburg advanced to a semifinal appearance in the Hoffman Estates boys volleyball regional with a 25-15, 25-10 victory over the host Hawks in regional quarterfinal play Saturday.
Bozhdar Kolev had a team-best 7 kills and Shakur West had 6 to lead the Saxons' attack.
Kolev also came up with 8 aces on 11-for-13 serving, while Sam Smith generated 27 assists.
Brian Girard had a team-high 5 kills and 3 blocks for Hoffman Estates, while Matt Stacy had 2 kills and 2 assists (on 16-for-16 setting) and Hardik Patel generated 5 assists.
The Saxons will meet Glenbard North in Tuesday's 6 p.m. semifinal at Hoffman Estates.
• Glenbard North eliminated Conant 28-26, 25-23.
Tim Breiter and Connor Lejman had 5 kills apiece and Nikola Todorov and Chris Wegenek had 3 each for the Cougars.
Nate Armando provided 15 assists, while J.T. Levitt had 13 digs and Lejman came up with 10.
• Streamwood topped Bartlett 25-22, 25-18 and will meet Lake Park in Tuesday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal.
Wheeling regional: Fremd and St. Viator both advanced to regional semifinal play at Wheeling with victories.
Fremd handled Grant 25-23, 25-11 and will next meet Zion-Benton at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
St. Viator ousted the host Wildcats 25-12, 29-27 and will face Lake Forest at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Wheeling's top results came from Matt Schiferl (24 digs), Tyler LaRosa (5 kills, 7 digs), Kyle Bagarella (16 digs, 14 assists), Michael Lechowicz (4 kills, 6 digs), Albert Flores (4 kills) and Alex Rybakc (7-8 serving, 1 ace).
Maine South tournament: MSL East co-champ Hersey tied with Lake Forest for top honors, as both teams finished 4-1.
Lake Forest beat Hersey 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 but lost to Maine South.
Hersey defeated Maine South 23-25, 25-12, 15-12 and also claimed wins over Shepard, Maine East and Maine West.
