Lakes claims tourney title

Megan Behrendt pounded 45 kills and rang up 33 digs, and Lakes' girls volleyball team stayed hot Saturday by winning its 11th annual invitational with a 5-0 record.

Lakes improved to 14-2 overall.

The Eagles began the day by beating Ridgewood (25-16, 25-7) and then outlasted Antioch (25-20, 25-27, 15-13). Lakes followed by rattling off wins over Grayslake Central (25-9, 25-13), Deerfield (25-20, 25-11) and Grayslake North (25-11, 25-15).

McKenna Lahr registered 26 kills, 39 digs and 7 aces for Lakes, while Maddie Demo dished out 94 assists. The Eagles' other contributors included Izzy Huntington (8 aces, 16 kills, 30 digs), Kaylee Lebron (4 aces, 9 kills, 3 blocks), Katie Billetdeaux (14 kills, 2 blocks) and Paige Bartlett (39 digs).

Huntington just signed with Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich., to play volleyball, Lakes coach Kate Cheek said.

Antioch and Grayslake Central (8-10) both went 3-2 on the day. Grayslake Central defeated Grayslake North in three sets. Allie Daul had 27 kills on the day for Grayslake Central, while Lauren LaBeck distributed 79 assists.
