Riverside Animal Clinic and Holistic Center to host puppy and dog training classes

Puppy and dog owners in McHenry and surrounding counties now have a seasoned dog trainer with over 30 years of experience coming to town.

Beginning Saturday, April 13, Riverside Animal Clinic and Holistic Center, 1112 Front St. in McHenry, will kick off a set of three classes: Puppy, Basic, and Intermediate Classes will be on Saturday mornings and Thursday late afternoons.

Classes will be taught by renowned reward-based obedience dog trainer Montana C. Hayes.

Hayes distinguishes herself by refusing to train with aversive techniques by using shock collars and prong collars. She uses positive training methods such as hand signals, soft voice commands with a marker word. She helps owners work on obedience commands like recall, sit, down, stay, place etc., and solve problems like barking, house-training, leash pulling, jumping and many other nuisance problems.

Hayes developed a Puppy Head-Start Program over 20 years ago, and owners love it as a jump start for young pups. She also teaches well-balanced obedience basic and intermediate classes.

Classes will be held at the clinic, owned by Jim Carlson, DVM. Call (815) 344-7715 to register for class. All dog owners are invited to sign up for class and/or come and watch!
