Winfield man hospitalized after fiery crash

A 33-year-old Winfield man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after a fiery crash in Winfield early Sunday morning.

Winfield police said officers responded to a reported single-vehicle crash at Jewell Road and Calvin Court at 3:01 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling westbound on Jewell at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames, police said.

The Winfield Fire Department extinguished the fire, and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital. No one else was in the vehicle, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
