Police to conduct safety check

The Arlington Heights Police Department will be conducting a Roadside Safety Check Friday along South Arlington Heights Road. The checkpoint will begin shortly after 10 p.m., and continue through 3 a.m. Saturday.

Purpose of this program is to identify motorists operating vehicles that have defective equipment, licensing and insurance violations, and those who choose to drive while under the influence. Officers will slow traffic, stopping cars at predetermined intervals.

Officers will be assigned to a collaborative enforcement initiative designed to ensure that roadways are safe for those who choose to drive in compliance with the law.

United Relief will pick up donations

Mount Prospect-based United Relief Foundation Stock the Shelves Hope and Help Express provides a way for people to get food and goods donations to their local food pantry or shelter.

Until Saturday, United Relief Foundation will be offering free pickup of food and goods donations from residents and businesses in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights and Wheeling.

United Relief Foundation will then deliver the food and goods donations in the contributor's name to the contributor's choice of a designated food pantry or shelter identified by the United Relief Foundation serving those towns.
