Singletary wants Falcons job
In a published report from Atlanta, Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary left no doubt about his interest in becoming the Falcons' next coach.
"Sure I would - absolutely," Singletary told Jeff Schultz of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a telephone interview when asked if he would like the job. "The one thing I've learned is it's hard to become a head coach. But I feel I'm ready now. I know I'm ready."
A Hall of Fame linebacker with the Bears, Singletary has been an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers since 2005. He interviewed with the Falcons in January for the job that went to Bobby Petrino, who resigned this season after 13 games. He has also interviewed for head coaching vacancies in Dallas and San Diego.
Singletary, who hired an agent this year for the first time in his coaching career, said he has heard "bits and pieces" about the Falcons' interest in talking to him. But he said there has been no contact from the team and no interview has been set up.
