Schaumburg couple sentenced for theft

A Schaumburg woman accused of taking money from her employer was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday -- and her husband, accused of helping in the crime, was sentenced to probation.

Sherri Kramer, 39, and Harry Kramer, 52, of the 400 block of Birmingham, both pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony theft, officials with the Cook County state's attorney's office said. The couple had faced multiple charges; those later were dismissed.

Sherri Kramer began serving her six-year sentence Tuesday, authorities said.

Harry Kramer was placed on four years of probation and ordered to pay $285,000 in restitution. He handed over $85,000 of that Tuesday, state's attorney officials said.

Sherri Kramer, who officials said was vice president of accounting at American Auto Guardian in Arlington Heights, is accused of issuing numerous checks to a business that no longer existed.

Authorities say the Kramers established a bank account in that business' name -- with themselves as signatories -- and deposited the checks in the account, withdrawing the money on later dates for their personal use.
