Barracuda Swim Team registration:ŒRegistration for the winter session of the Schaumburg Park District's Barracuda Swim Team will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, Schaumburg.
The Barracuda Swim Team is a multi-level program designed to promote competition and skill development to young swimmers. New members are welcome, and practices will be held at the Schaumburg High School pool.
There is no online or mail-in registration for this program. Registrants must bring in two checks to register. Assessed fees include program fee, ISI fee ($60 if applicable) and a $25 fundraising buy-out. Practice schedules will be distributed at registration.

Zumba Open House:ŒSpice up workout routines with Zumba, a Latin dance-inspired fitness class offered by the Schaumburg Park District.
Zumba trainer Barbara Klontz will give participants a free introduction to this workout at SPD's Fitness Open House, held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15, in the Community Recreation Center's Fitness Studio.
The class is beginner-friendly and fits into any fitness regimen. "The dance steps are broken down in simple fashion and we encourage anyone to give it a try," said SPD fitness supervisor Jennie Bever. "Zumba is a great way to get the heart rate up and have fun."

Dodgeball Winter Nationals:ŒThe Dodgeball Winter Nationals get under way at 9 a.m. Jan. 5 at Schaumburg Park District's Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road.
The National Amateur Dodgeball Association's indoor championships feature adult, co-rec and youth divisions, with games officiated by NADA staff and volunteers.
Teams will compete for cash awards and paid bids to the Outdoor National Championships in July 2008. All participants receive a T-shirt. The registration deadline is Dec. 21.

Online registration:ŒSchaumburg Park District resident registration for classes and events can be done with the online and telephone registration system, (i)SPOT.
The system is available from the District's web site, parkfun.com, or by touch-tone telephone at (847) 524-4200.
Users may check account balances, view account history, and register for programs. All functions are performed within a secure connection.
Each family has an identifying account PIN number, and each member their own client code number -- both necessary to register for programs. To set up a new account, visit the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg, and fill out a registration card or online form. Identification and proof of district residency is required.
Residents who wish to use the online system should visit parkfun.com and click on the (i)SPOT dog logo to begin. Touch-tone users may call (847) 524-4200 and follow the prompts.

Sundays at the Cabin:ŒThe Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, invites families to take part in the Schaumburg Park District's "Sundays at the Cabin" program, held from 1 to 4 p.m.
Held at the log cabin, located just a short walk from the visitor center, trained volunteers are on hand to recount the history of the site.
Activities include a Foodways demonstration on the first Sunday of the month, illustrating early American hearth cooking and food preparation. On remaining Sundays, participants will make a simple craft to take home. The admission fee is $1 or less.

Gymnastics training:ŒSign up for personal gymnastic instruction at the Schaumburg Park District Sports Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road, Schaumburg. Expert instructors will assist gymnasts in taking their skills to a new level.

Fitness One group classes:ŒThe Schaumburg Park District's Fitness One group classes will be held at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, and Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, in Schaumburg.
Kickboxing, Cardio Combo and Abs N' Ends will kick start the metabolism and ramp up energy, all while toning up muscles and creating more flexibility. All group classes are available to Fitness One pass holders, available from $56.25 to $139.50 ($71.25 to $173.25 nonresident).
