Students take songs on the road
Fox River Country Day School in Elgin will celebrate the holidays with its annual Holiday Sing. On Tuesday, the middle school students will take their songs and costumes on the road, making three stops in the area. Performances start at 9 a.m. in the Sears Court at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, followed by an 11 a.m. sing at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, and winding up at Stratford Square Mall, in Bloomingdale, on the lower level at the Kohl's Court. Men's quartet sings for Elgin Rotary
The Men's Quartet from Judson University will be today's program at the Rotary Club meeting. The club meets for lunch at noon at Villa Olivia Country Club, off Route 20 in Bartlett. All are welcome. For details, call Jay Curtis at (630) 584-2267.
Oak Crest holds monthly book sale
Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments invites the community to attend their monthly book sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Atrium, 204 S. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin.
The book sale consists of more than 1,000 gently used books, along with VHS movies and CDs for your enjoyment. Hardbacks cost $1 each, and paperbacks are 50 cents. Books are added routinely to the already large selection. Most of the books are in mint condition. Hot chocolate will be served.

Coat drive wraps up this week
In cooperation with the city of Elgin and villages of Carpentersville and East Dundee, state Rep. Ruth Munson, a Republican from Elgin, will be collecting new or gently used winter coats for those in need. The coat drive will run through Friday.
Winter coats for adults and children can be dropped off at the specially marked boxes at the following locations: Munson's district office at 1146 Dundee Ave. in Elgin; Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court; Carpentersville Village Hall, 1200 L.W. Besinger Drive; or the Dundee Township Park District Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
All coats will be donated to the Community Crisis Center and the Public Action to Deliver Shelter program. Munson asks that all donated clothing be in good, wearable condition. For details, call Munson's office at (847) 622-1048 or e-mail ruthmunson @ruthmunson.com.
