Spica sparks Barrington
Cary-Grove just couldn't stop Matt Spica … or Barrington.
Spica notched 4 goals and an assist to boost Barrington to a 7-2 victory in the Metro Central on Sunday.
Geno Malone added a goal and 2 assists for Barrington, while teammates William Murphy and William Schmitz also scored.
Goalie Mitchell Saviola made 7 saves for Barrington (10-1-1), first in the Metro Central.
Barrington plays Maine Township at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in Niles.

• Conant and Hersey battled to a 3-3 tie.
John Redmond scored 2 goals for Hersey (2-3-4) on assists from Andrew Geisel and William Solan.
Geisel scored on a pass from Chris Brush.
Patrick Butler (19 saves) and Chris James (10 saves) shared duties in goa l for Hersey.
Dean Giesel scored first for the Cougars off Michael Gannon's assist. The next 2 goals were by Matthew Nordstrom and Bryan Starzynski, both after Shane Hahn passes. Goalie Daniel McKenzie made 25 saves for the Cougars (2-7-1).
• Fremd and PREP (Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove and Prospect) ended in a 3-3 tie, as both teams scored a goal per period.
Ethan Salsinger got things going for the Vikings off passes from Ryan Curtin and Eric Freeburg.
Freeburg scored 2 more for Fremd (6-1-3) with assists from Tyker Gregory and Curtin.
For PREP (4-3-3), Carl Roll scored first on assists by Michael Tomaras and Keith Monson.
Denny Pauly added a power-play goal as Ryan Morrissey assisted. Thomas Boczar closed out the scoring after an assist from Pauly.
Goalie Patrick Fitton made 27 saves for the Vikings.
Matthew Snisko turned away 19 shots for PREP.
• On Sunday, Buffalo Grove/Wheeling (9-2-6) got past Deerfield 6-2 in a nonconference game.
Anthony Ricciardi netted a hat trick and an assist to lead the Bison. Jeff Tlusty logged 4 saves in goal.
