Wrap: Burton, Feece lead Vernon Hills to victory over Lakes
Vernon Hills' girls basketball team got back in the win column, while Lakes suffered another loss.
Amy Burton scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the visiting Cougars to a 56-29 win in North Suburban Prairie Division action Tuesday night.
Vernon Hills had lost its last two games.
Mallory Feece added 12 points and 7 boards for Vernon Hills (5-7, 3-2). Brianna Skeens dished out 6 assists, while Kelly Nagle contributed 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 points and 4 steals.
Lakes (0-15, 0-5) was led in scoring by Keshia Cunningham with 12 points.
Montini 52, Stevenson 38: In Round 1 of the Suburban Holiday Showcase, the Lady Broncos jumped out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter at Stevenson and never looked back.
Montini (7-4) was led by 6-foot-3 sophomore center Michala Johnson with 21 points and 6 rebounds.
Stevenson (4-10), which committed 12 of its 26 turnovers in the opening quarter, cut its deficit to 24-15 by halftime but got outscored 12-5 in the third quarter.
Caitlin Morrissey scored 10 points for the Patriots, who dropped their fourth game in a row. Anna Morrissey had 8 points coming off the bench. Kelsey Simon finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds.
Stevenson's Claire Moller (6 points) ended the game by sinking a shot from midcourt.
Women's basketball
Lake County 66, Triton 46: Tiffany Lehner had 25 points and 19 rebounds for College of Lake County.
Ashley Braden added 14 points and 10 boards.
