Hawks welcome Hull, Mikita back to 'family'
With new president John McDonough leading the way, the Blackhawks continue to do the right things off the ice.
It was McDonough announcing on Wednesday that legends Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita would be rejoining the organization as official Blackhawks ambassadors, representing the club at events at the United Center and throughout the area.
For decades Hull and Mikita, the greatest players in the history of the franchise, did not feel welcomed in the organization because of differences with former senior vice president Bob Pulford.
New chairmen Rocky Wirtz and McDonough have made it a priority to reconnect with former players.
"I am overwhelmed to be a part of the Chicago Blackhawks family again," Hull said. "I've been away from Chicago for some 35 years, but Chicago was never out of my heart. The Chicago Blackhawks' logo has always meant a lot to me as I know it does to the Chicago fans.
"It is truly time for me to come back to Chicago."
• The Hawks and ComcastSports Net also announced Wednesday that Jim Blaney no longer would serve as studio host for telecasts.
Blaney will focus on his duties as Hawks director of public relations and community outreach.
Comcast plans to rotate Josh Mora, Chuck Garfien and Chris Boden as hosts with analyst Steve Konroyd.
