Parent/Child Magic Class: Parents and their children, ages 3 to 4 can enjoy Gary Kantor's popular magic class at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Sullivan Community Center. The children will learn a collection of tricks, each designed specifically for young children. Parents will get to work side-by-side with their children to help create the magic. Each child will also receive a magic kit to take home. There is a fee of $19 for residents, $24 for nonresidents per couple, $9.50 for each additional child.

Ski/Snowboard Trip: For kids in fifth to eighth grade, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Jan. 4 at Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin. At Alpine Valley there is always snow and with 12 runs, eight chairlifts and five rope tows, it satisfies beginning skiers as well as seasoned ones. The trip will depart and return to the Sullivan Community Center. Lunch will be on your own at the lodge. Deadline to register is Friday. This trip is limited to 40 students. Chaperones will supervise bus trip and give assistance in getting students ready for the slopes. The fee varies from $42 to $62 depending on rental equipment.

Cheerleading & Poms: For girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. Girls will learn catchy cheers and a pompon routine choreographed to lively music. The squad will perform during halftime at a Vernon Hills Park District basketball game March 15. Poms are provided, but a $10 T-shirt fee is due the first day of class. Class meets on Mondays, Jan. 7 to March 17 at the Deerpath Center. Kindergartners meet at 4:15 p.m., first graders meet at 5:15 p.m., and girls in second to fifth grades meet at 6:15 p.m. There is a fee of $80 for residents, $100 for nonresidents.

Softball Pitching Clinics: Boys and girls ages 9 to 18 will learn beginning to advanced pitching techniques and improve their skills. Individuals must bring their own gloves and catchers to each session. Bring $10 to the first class to purchase softballs. Catchers are not required to pay a registration fee. The park district will film participants' progress if they supply VHS tapes. This clinic meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 7 to 30 at Hawthorn Elementary North gym. Four session times are offered between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. There is a fee of $80.

Co-ed Volleyball Clinic: This co-ed class for kids in third to eighth grade will teach participants the fundamentals of volleyball in a team setting. Instruction will focus on passing, setting, spiking, serving and blocking, while stressing the importance of discipline and teamwork. Participants will be grouped according to playing skill. Class will meet on Mondays, Jan. 7 to Feb. 25 at Hawthorn Middle School gym. Kids in third to fifth grade will meet at 6:30 p.m., sixth to eighths grade will meet at 7:30 p.m. There is a fee of $105.

Computer Classes for Kids: Imagine Tomorrow classes combine learning adventure with sophisticated technology concept that teaches children ages 3 to 7 to use computers as a tool. Children will be provided with their own laptop using Imagine Tomorrow software. Class will meet on Mondays or Wednesdays beginning the week of Jan. 7 at the Sullivan Community Center. Children, ages 3 to 5 years old will meet at 2:30 p.m., ages 5 to 7 will meet at 3:40 p.m. There is a fee of $120 for residents, $150 for nonresidents.
