Too much positive spin on Rep. Hyde

It always amazes me when someone in public office passes away, all the accolades thrown their way. In the case of Henry Hyde, almost everything you heard after his passing was in the positive. I would like a respond to all this positive spin put out about this man.

The first thing you would hear about Henry Hyde was the so- called "Hyde Amendment". While he used his influence to stifle the federal government from funding abortion, what exactly did this accomplish? Those that are on Medicaid (welfare by some) now had to have a child that perhaps they did not want or could not afford. Let's see… now that child could possibly be on welfare until he is 18 years of age.

Now those who advocate against abortion justify the welfare state by someone who maybe just could not afford the cost of this child. Sounds a bit hypocritical.

I do not endorse abortion. Those who chose this way must live with it.

Now we can get to Mr. Hyde's push on the assault weapons ban.

As a gun-card member of this state I understand a person's right to bear arms. But assault weapons? Yeah, that deer in the woods is a real problem ... probably has an AK-47. The only reason for these weapons is to kill people.

Now, when this bill came up for reenactment under this administration, not a word came out of Mr. Hyde's mouth to continue the assault weapons ban. The ban expired with silence from Mr. Hyde. I fully endorsed him on this ban. Yeah, again hypocritical.

Now we can get to the Clinton impeachment. It is here where the Daily Herald, in its editorial, finally refers to Mr. Hyde as a hypocrite. Yeah, I guess Bill Clinton lied about the Monica thing. But show me one man who wouldn't and I'll show you a liar. I think that was Mr. Hyde...indiscretion he called it. Funny, he was almost the same age as Bill Clinton when he had his affair. I guess adultery is OK for only some of us. Well, maybe...
