Briefs: Lake in the Hills installs red light camera

Don't even think about going through a red light in Lake in the Hills at Randall Road and Acorn Lane. An automated red light camera is now operating to catch your every move. Police will issue warning notices to drivers caught running a red light between now and Jan. 17. After that date, drivers ignoring red lights will receive citations. In 2006, there were 33 accidents at the intersection, police said. The most recent fatal accident at the same intersection occurred in 2002, police said. Cops crack down on DUI

Illinois State Police plan to step up enforcement of impaired driving in advance of Christmas. Police will be on the lookout for drunken and drugged drivers Friday through Sunday as part of the CARE National Holiday Lifesavers Mobilization Weekend. Police said they will be actively pursuing intoxicated motorists through roadside safety checks, alcohol counter enforcement patrols or other efforts. They will also be dedicating extra troopers on highways during peak holiday travel hours.
