Broken finger shelves Bolland

The Blackhawks expect to be without winger Martin Havlat for at least the next two weeks.

But they could be minus center Dave Bolland even longer.

Bolland broke a finger in the first period of Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, and a broken bone often means 4-6 weeks on the shelf.

"He's going to be out awhile, and we'll have to make a call-up here (from Rockford)," Hawks coach Denis Savard said. "It's too bad because the kid has played awesome for us."

Havlat injured his groin in Saturday's win at Ottawa, but general manager Dale Tallon said the problem isn't as serious as the one that has sidelined Jason Williams for 15 of the last 16 games.

Havlat was just working himself back into top form after missing 22 games with a shoulder injury suffered on opening night.

"Just when it looked like we were getting everyone healthy someone else goes down," Tallon said.

The Hawks expect winger Rene Bourque to play next Sunday against Los Angeles. Bourque has missed the last 15 games with a broken thumb.

Center Jake Dowell is about 10 days to two weeks away from returning from a broken foot.

Havlat has been somewhat injury prone since being traded to the Hawks, missing 49 of 117 games.

Oilers cry foul: Edmonton lost star forward Ales Hemsky at 13:05 of the second period after a knee-to-knee collision with Martin Lapointe, who was penalized for tripping.

The Oilers weren't happy with Lapointe, who could face a possible review of the play by the NHL.

"It was a dirty hit, throwing his knee out at him," Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish said. "It should easily have been a five-minute major.

"How do you brace yourself for that type of hit? There's no need for that."

Zach Stortini of the Oilers went after Lapointe early in the third period, with both players drawing fighting majors.

Let's go: It shouldn't have come as any surprise that the Hawks' Ben Eager and Edmonton's Zach Stortini fought at 4:56 of the first period on their first shift of the game.

Eager and Stortini had words during the pregame skate, with Martin Lapointe having to get between them.

Tip-ins: Andrei Zyuzin and David Koci were healthy scratches. Zyuzin, a team worst minus-9, was a minus-1 in only 11 minutes in the victory at Ottawa. Dustin Byfuglien, who finished the Ottawa game on defense after starting it as a forward, played defense Sunday in Zyuzin's spot. … The Hawks are off today and Tuesday for Christmas. They host Nashville on Wednesday at the United Center.
