Memorial expected to attract luminaries
While details of funeral services for former U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde are still preliminary, one thing is certain -- a large and distinguished crowd is expected to attend.
The former 6th District Republican died early Thursday morning.
As organizers attempt to accommodate Hyde's myriad friends and colleagues, tentative plans call for a wake Thursday evening and a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Neumann Church, 2900 E. Main St. in St. Charles.
Numerous members of Congress are expected to pay their respects, including some who are out of the country now.
Other potential guests include current and former Cabinet secretaries. Vice President Dick Cheney also is a possibility, although a spokeswoman was unable to confirm his attendance.
Hyde, 83, served for 32 years in the U.S. House, retiring in 2006. The longtime Wood Dale resident held a number of positions, including chairman of the Judiciary and International Relations committees.
