Briefs: Parkway group meets
The Longmeadow Parkway Taskforce will hold a planning meeting at 7 tonight at the West Dundee Public Safety Center II, 100 Carrington Drive. The ad hoc committee will discuss preliminary traffic projections and the financial feasibility study of the $88 million project as well as establish working groups for the municipal and county representatives. The group will also hear public comments.
Aid for flood victims
La Quebrada Mexican restaurant in downtown Elgin will collect food and assemble gift packages Friday for people devastated by the recent floods in the Mexican state of Tabasco and for needy people in Illinois. You can help by dropping off food and nonperishable items at the restaurant, 148 E. Highland Ave. As an added bonus, Abel Vences, a radio personality from La Que Buena 105.1 FM, will broadcast his show from the Elgin location that day from 3 to 7 p.m. Call the restaurant at (773) 320œ8242.
An Almost Winter Day
An Almost Winter Day will run 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at County Park in South Elgin. The annual event will feature a petting zoo, pony rides, horse drawn sleigh rides, a coffee bar, a cookie-decorating station, a craft station and a bonfire to keep everyone warm. Santa Claus will arrive at 5 p.m. to light the Christmas tree.
Clerk's holiday hours:
In observance of Thanksgiving, the Kane County clerk's office will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and will not reopen until 8:30 a.m. Monday to resume normal business hours. The clerk's office is at 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva.
